Tatiana Kukanova’s Top 3 Travel Photography Tips

Now that I have finished my university studies, I, Tatiana Kukanova, have decided to travel around the world and start getting into photography. But these days, it is almost impossible to find someone who has a mobile phone without a camera and internet connection. Anyone with a camera can share captivating photos of travel experiences on social media. Given this circumstances, I started thinking that everything in existence is already photographed by somebody else and there is nothing more which I can contribute to the world of photography. So I decided to take a moment and jot down my own personal thoughts about taking photos whenever I go on a trip away from home.

Here are three of Tatiana Kukanova’s tips for travel photographers:

1. Tell a story instead of just taking pictures.

I believe that travel photography is more about telling visual stories about the new experiences, new people, and new sights that we had during our trips instead of just a simple record of it.  So make sure that you make a way to convey your emotions and message in your photographs.

2. It is less of the camera and more of the person behind it.

What makes a good photograph is not an expensive camera and equipments, but the photographer’s creative skills, knowledge of his camera, and knowledge of his subject. Photographers before our time did not have any of the fancy equipments we have now, but they still produced captivating pictures that touched the hearts of their audience. So stop thinking that you need to buy more, instead, you should know more and practice more.

3. A for effort!

Finally, I believe that good photographs come from a photographer’s patience, training, and thinking. So… if you really want to produce top-notch photographs of your travel experiences, make sure to be involved and hands-on in capturing the picture you want and processing its best composition, instead of just clicking the shutter!
