Tatiana Kukanova’s Tips on How to Get the Most When Photographing Africa

If you are like me, Tatiana Kukanova, a nature and wildlife photographer, then you probably also love travelling to all of the seven continents of our beautiful world. Right now, I am in Africa, enjoying all the majestic spectacle I am honored to personally encounter. Although visiting Africa and going on a safari tour will only last for a few days or weeks, the pictures you take during your tours will stay with you forever. This is why I, Tatiana Kukanova, have decided to list down some tips for you to make sure that you get the most out of photographing Africa during your tours.

Lighting is key
I, Tatiana Kukanova, believe that light is probably one of the most important things you need when shooting in Africa. The light in Africa is very bright and harsh, so instead of trying to get your special shot all day long, pick your outings according to the light. I suggest that you take photographs during dusk and dawn since these are when there are no extremes of either shadow light. These are also when the animals are most active.

Out and about
Be present while you are on a safari tour! Coming across many different animals is very exciting, but do not forget to be discerning when taking photographs. You should not try to shoot everything, but rather enjoy the experience.

Composition is vital
For you to have visually engaging shots, I, Tatiana Kukanova, suggest that you try the following:
·         Aim at your focal point
·         Half click your shutter button and then move your camera to position it according to the rule of thirds
This technique will give you both great composition and interesting depth of field.

Bigger is not always better
Bringing several professional camera lenses on your safari tour can be inconvenient and may hinder you to take quality shots. Large lenses are heavy, difficult to maneuver, and sensitive to the African environment. I suggest that you bring only one lens that best suits your tour because it will be easier for you to get great shots if you can move freely.
